Alkalinity
Immediate, On-line Results for Improved Process Control
The FPA 300 duplicates ASTM and Standard Methods for the determination of alkalinity (see below). Tytronics’ analyzers are designed for reliability in the process environment -- simplified sampling with few moving parts, low maintenance to keep your process running and such features as automatic calibration to minimize operator attention. Installation is rapid and straightforward, with short training time.
Typical Applications:
-
Food processing, beverage and brewing industries measure water alkalinity to control starch solubilization, beverage acidity or fermentation
-
Food processing for feed water quality control
-
Water and wastewater treatment monitoring
-
Plant utilities to control scale formation in cooling water caused by excess carbonate
-
Power generation to control excess hydroxide in boiler water which can cause caustic embrittlement of boiler metals
-
Utilities, water treatment plants and manufacturing industries using large quantities of raw water.
Alkalinity
Alkalinity is the ability of a solution to neutralize acids and is the sum of all the titrable bases, as determined by titration with a strong mineral acid. In natural waters alkalinity is primarily a function of dissolved carbonate, bicarbonate, and hydroxide ions, although other bases such as phosphates may contribute.
Closed Loop Control When Quality is Critical
On-line analysis improves quality because it allows rapid response to variations in the manufacturing process and enhances accuracy and reproducibility by eliminating the delays common to laboratory analysis.
The analyzer can be set up to immediately alert operators to out-of -specification conditions or directly signal controllers of problems. Standard industrial outputs are standard for integration with plant or distributed process control.
Fast response to process chemistry changes can save thousands of dollars in lost time and product. With reliable, on-line analysis you get that fast response, resulting in a more consistent product at better cost.
Method: Acid-base titration, for P, M, or 2P-M alkalinity. Results can also be calculated as the concentration of hydroxide and carbonate.
Sample Size: 40 ml
Range (dependent on titrant): Sample Range Titrant
0-30ppm 0.0025N HCl
0-50ppm 0.005N HCl
0-100ppm 0.010N HCl
Frequency: 10 analyses per hour, 24 hours per day.
Standard: Selected to be near normal operating concentration.
Electrode: Combination pH electrode.
